Int’l unicorn dance festival to kick off in town

An international unicorn dance festival will take place at Nguyen Du Stadium (116 Nguyen Du Street, District 1, HCMC) in the city from November 14th to 17th, 2008.

The festival will be attended by strong troupes from countries and territories in Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Taiwan and the host country Vietnam. Competitions between the troupes will be showcased on November 15th and 16th, 2008 and the lion and dragon dances, drum dance, martial arts, Vietnamese record-breaking acts and music will also be performed during the festival.

This is the first time the city has hosted this sporting and cultural event which is rich in Asian traditions.

Unicorn and lion dancing became sports in the second Asian Indoor Games in Macau in 2007, when the Vietnam troupe won a bronze medal in the lion dancing. The festival is organized by the Center of Sports and Gymnastics of District 1, HTC Corp. and the HCMC’s Nhon Nghia Duong unicorn - lion and dragon dance troupe.
