1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi to be promoted and popularized abroad

On January 5th, in Hanoi, the Hanoi City People’s Committee and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed an agreement to cooperate on activities in the 2009-2010 period to mark 1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi.

Accordingly, as part of the agreement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will put together a plan to seek UNESCO recognition for the central area of the Ancient Thang Long-Hanoi Royal Citadel as a world cultural heritage site.

The Ministry will also attempt to persuade UNESCO to issue a resolution on the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, and make plans to promote the image of Thang Long – Hanoi's anniversary celebrations in international forums, and on the occasion of Party and State leaders’ official visits to foreign countries.

Vietnamese representative agencies abroad will be responsible for promoting the image of Thang Long – Hanoi's 1000th anniversary, mobilize other cities and capitals around the world that have already passed 1000 years to join the “Club of 1000-Year-Old Cities”, and invite international friends to participate in activities to mark the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.

And, as part of the framework of the Cultural Diplomatic Year 2009, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate with Hanoi's People’s Committee to hold “Hanoi Cultural Days in Paris”.
