Over half a century of preserving and promoting the values of its historical and cultural sites, Ha Noi has achieved remarkable results in research, preserving and evoking the potential hidden values of the monuments.

Experts at the symposium discuss measures for the conservation
and promotion of historical and cultural relics in the capital city

The information was heard at a workshop held by the Ha Noi People's Committee in collaboration with the Vietnamese Association of Historical Sciences on September 19. The event gathered scientists and experts to analyse and clarify issues leading to limitations in the preservation, embellishment and promotion of historical and cultural sites in the capital city, as well as discussing measures to facilitate the work in the near future.

Speaking at the opening, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy affirmed that Ha Noi takes the lead among localities across the nation in the number of historical relics as well as the number of cultural sites recognised as national special sites.

According to the vice chairman, the event served to affirm that cultural heritage is one of the fundamental resources for the capital city’s socio-economic development, as well as helping Ha Noi timely remedy the limitations in the preservation of heritage sites.

Experts suggest preserving what is considered the "cultural symbol"
with the most typical characteristic for each development stage of Ha Noi.

Head of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong said that the city’s sector has made its utmost efforts in preserving, refurbishing and promoting the values of monuments in contemporary life, which has resulted in positive achievements, but limitations still exist.

Particularly, the development research results have not been on par with the huge number of local relics. More than 50% of them have not been fully researched and documented, even without general preservation planning. Currently, the city has nearly 1,500 relics degraded, with 166 ones compromised.

At the seminar, the delegates discussed ways to preserve the historical and cultural values of Ha Noi’s relics in the context of strongly boosted development. The workshop received 31 presentations from prestigious managers, experts and scientists addressing the concerning issues that have drawn public attention over the past few years, focusing on protecting and promoting the value of the cultural heritage treasures of Ha Noi.
