Vietnam’s large cities welcome first foreign tourists in 2020

The Departments of Tourism of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City organised ceremonies on January 1, to welcome the first foreign tourists in 2020.
 
Hanoi welcomes first foreign tourists in 2020
 
Alain Baron, a French national flying with national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines from France to Hanoi, became the first foreign tourist to set foot in the capital city in 2020.
 
A ceremony to welcome Baron and 14 other foreign visitors was held at the Noi Bai International Airport on January 1 by the municipal Department of Tourism, the Vietnam Airlines Corporation and the Noi Bai International Airport.
 
The ceremony to welcome the first foreign visitors to Hanoi is hoped to help the capital city promote its image and people to international friends.
 
The number of tourists to Hanoi reached nearly 29 million in 2019, up 10 percent from the previous year, including over 7 million foreigners, a year-on-year rise of 17 percent.
 
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Department together with the Tourism Association of Ho Chi Minh City and airlines organize a ceremony to welcome international delegations to Ho Chi Minh City on the first day of 2020.
 
 
The event aims to show the hospitality tradition of Ho Chi Minh City’s people, creating sympathy for domestic and foreign tourists on the occasion of New Years Day , contributing to promoting and attracting tourists to the city in particular and Vietnam in general.
 
In addition to the meaningful gifts of the tourism industry, the airlines will also gave away round-trip tickets for lucky guests. At the same time, these guests will also be participating in tour programs around Ho Chi Minh City in the chain of promoting tourism programmes organized by the city tourism businesses. In particular, to Ho Chi Minh City, visitors will mingle and join in the exciting atmosphere to welcome the new year and celebrate New Year with the locals.
 
The city has set a goal of welcoming 10 million international visitors; 35 million domestic tourists and the total tourism revenue are expected to reach VND165 trillion in 2020.
