Southern Fruit Festival pencilled in for early June

The 2014 Southern Fruit Festival is expected to open on June 1st in Tien Stream Tourism Area, Ho Chi Minh city, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The festival is annually held by the city’s tourism sector. Over the past nine years, the event contributed to promoting and introducing the city’s image to both domestic and foreign tourists.

The festival will have 50 kiosks displaying fruits and village craft products of the 21 provinces and cities in the southern area and neighboring areas.

This year’s event will have new fruits such as Vinh Hao grapes, the Vinh Kim Tien Giang variety of orange, Vinh Kim Tien Giang seedless guava, Dang Van Ro green grapefruit, Vinh Cuu Dong Nai oranges, Vacdona Long Thanh Red jackfruit, Ba Den Mountain custard apples and Hoang Kim watermelons.

Aiming to encourage planters to apply advanced science and technology into production as well as in creating new varieties, the festival will organise a delicious fruit competition with various varieties of fruit from planters from 21 provinces and cities.

Additionally, during the festival, there will be a fruit parade, art performances and special folk games.
