Viet Nam to appoint new tourism envoy
Update: May 30, 2014
Viet Nam will soon appoint a new tourism envoy who will spread facts about its cultural riches to the world, as part of efforts to lure more foreigners to the country.

The line-up for the title include well-known actress Nguyen Lan Phuong, English-language teacher Do Thi Hong Thuan, Miss Tourism 2011 Huynh Thi Ngoc Han and Miss ASEAN 2012 Le Thi Dieu Han.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan informed the media in Hanoi on May 29 that he will lead a jury panel to decide on the winner, with others from the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism, the Viet Nam Tourism Association, the International Cooperation Department, and possibly even journalists.

He also asked for their feedback on the regulations of the appointment and the rights and responsibilities the envoy should be given, and vowed that the suggestions will be submitted to senior ministry officials for approval.

The envoy, who will work for no more than three years, is required to have a full grasp of Vietnamese history, culture and tourism, have reached eminence in a profession and play a constructive role in social progress.

Foreign applicants must have prestige and make positive impact in their home nations while actively contributing to Viet Nam’s coordination with worldwide countries.

The winner will join tourism officials during the Viet Nam culture week in three Russian cities in June, the Viet Nam festival in Japan and the Republic of Korea, the Viet Nam Day in the Netherlands in October and the Viet Nam Year in Indonesia in November.

There will also be many tourism envoys for different markets and specific activities, Tuan said.
