Update: Oct 10, 2014
Con Dao district in the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau greeted nearly 80,000 tourist arrivals from the start of the year, a year-on-year rise of 14.98%, reported the managing board for tourism areas in Con Dao.

This figure included more than 16,500 foreign arrivals, accounting for 20% of the total to the district. Total tourism and related services turnover in the first nine months this year reached nearly VND277 billion, a year-on-year rise of 22%. Of this, turnover from welcoming foreign tourists was estimated at VND102 billion.

An increase in the number of foreign tourists to Con Dao was due to the district being promoted and advertised on some foreign channels and magazines and travel businesses in the district upgrading infrastructure to provide better services for tourists. Apart from good weather and long holidays, the lowering of electricity prices also helped hotels in the district reduce costs to focus on discount campaigns.

Currently, Con Dao is investing in infrastructure projects such as transport, electricity and water provision and sewage and garbage treatment to strive to attract 64,000 tourist arrivals a year by 2015.
