An international conference on golf tourism was held in Da Nang city by the International Association of Golf Tourism Operators (IAGTO) and the city Department of Tourism on May 8.

The event, part of activities for the ongoing Asia Golf Tourism Convention 2017 in the central city, presents opportunities for golf tourism firms, golf courses, airlines, hotels and other logistic service providers to connect.

It was attended by representatives from the Viet Nam National Tourism Administration, local authorities, domestic and international enterprises, and associations.

It aims to analyse the impacts of golf tourism on the tourism sector in the central region and in Asia and to study experience in golf tourism from other regional nations while enhancing awareness of golf tourism among Vietnamese people.

The workshop was also set to promote tourism products and draw investment for infrastructure facilities.

Speakers at the event shared experience in sustainable golf tourism development with the participation of their communities.

According to local authorities, golf tourism in the central region generated 68 million USD in 2016. The figure is expected to reach 186 million USD in five years.

According to the IAGTO, there are 56 million golf players across the world.

The organisation has 169 members from 41 nations, who are exploring Asian markets and eyeing Viet Nam’s market with the aim to increase the number of service users by 50 percent.

The IAGTO estimated that Da Nang will earn over 40 million USD per year from golf tourism.
