Vietnam attends festival in Netherlands
Update: May 26, 2009
Vietnam has sent its artists to the 51st Tong Tong Festival that opened in the Hague, the Netherlands, on May 21.

A troupe from the Vietnam National Music, Dance and Song Theatre gave two performances on the opening day of the festival.

In addition, Vietnam’s land and people as well as its handicraft and porcelain products, clothing and its tourism potentials are being displayed at several pavilions at the event.

The festival, one of the largest in the Netherlands, draws the participation of businesses from the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and artistic troupes from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and the host country.

The Tong Tong Festival has been held annually since 1958 with the initial aim of introducing the Indies-Eurasia culture and the cultural exchange between the Netherlands and Indonesia.

The festival has over recent years drawn the participation of countries from the ASEAN, Asia and around the world.

The organising board of the festival hopes to welcome 133,000 visitors this year despite the economic downturn.
