Lunar New Year celebrated abroad

Various activities were held on February 7 by the Vietnamese embassies in Thailand, Cambodia and Bangladesh to celebrate the coming Lunar New Year (the Year of the Tiger).

Hundreds of Overseas Vietnamese gathered at the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok for Tet celebrations.

Ambassador Nguyen Duy Hung highlighted Vietnam’s significant achievements in recent years and expressed appreciation for the remarkable contributions by the Vietnamese community in Thailand to national construction and defence of their homeland.

He conveyed his best wishes to the Vietnamese in Thailand in the New Year and called for more support and contributions to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

At the event, Pham Van Vy, a Vietnamese residing in Bangkok, thanked the Party and Government for their great care and pledged to do his best to contribute to the homeland.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese people in Thailand also held arts performances and served traditional dishes.

Earlier, more than 2,000 Vietnamese nationals in northeastern provinces of Thailand also held a get-together in Nong Khai in the presence of Vietnamese diplomats and officials, as well as local authorities.

In Cambodia, the Overseas Vietnamese Association, in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh and the Army-run Telecommunication Corporation (Viettel) visited and presented New Year gifts to a number of Vietnamese families in Kien Svay District, Kandal Province.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia also donated more than 300 gifts to poor households to enjoy a happy New Year.

Vietnamese businesspeople in Cambodia presented more than 500 gifts to poor Vietnamese in the districts of Meanchey, Dankao and Rusey Keo in Phnom Penh. They will continue to give New Year gifts to the poor in the Svai Rieng and Kompong Spue provinces.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangladesh held a meeting for Vietnamese people living and studying in Dhaka to celebrate their traditional New Year Festival.

Ambassador Nguyen Van That was delighted at the fine development in bilateral relations and called for strong solidarity among Overseas Vietnamese, as well as closer ties between the two nations.

Similar events were also held in Italy and Morocco.
