National tourism promotion programme for 2013-2020 approved

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed decision 2151/QD-TTg on November 11 approving the national tourism promotion programme during the 2013-2020 period.

Under the decision, the programme aims to intensify activities to popularize national and local destinations, Vietnam’s special tourism products and services abroad to attract more foreign tourists and extend foreigners’ accommodation and spending.

By 2020, for each of the major international tourism markets of Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Pacific, North America, Western Europe and Eastern Europe, three to four tourism promotion activities will be carried out. In addition, in the potential markets of South Asia and the Middle East, at least one activity will be implemented for each.

In addition, the programme focuses on speeding up popularization and promotion activities domestically to raise awareness of protecting the tourism environment and behaviour toward tourists. By 2020, three to five events will be organised annually in localities with tourism potential. It also mentioned the association with 15-20 large domestic communication agencies to popularize tourism.

Another goal of the programme is developing online marketing and producing publications to promote tourism popularization.

PM asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to build management and directing policies to realize the programme.

The decision took effect from the signing date.
