Viet Nam’s cuisine rouses appetite in South Africa
Update: Sep 15, 2015
A nine-day festival spotlighting Vietnamese culinary delights recently took place in the largest South African city of Johannesburg.

All dishes were cooked with imported ingredients from their hometown by Ma Chi Tan and Duong Bao Son, two famous Vietnamese chefs working for the Hyatt hotel chain - the organiser of the event.

Hyatt representative Andre Troy Botha said the company had planned to promote Vietnamese cuisine for a long time.

With the help of the Viet Nam Embassy in the host country and local media, the festival received a warm welcome, he shared.

Viet Nam Ambassador to South Africa Le Huy Hoang lauded the well-prepared event, saying it is the longest promotion of Vietnamese food and will contribute to expanding trade ties between the two nations.

Trade between Viet Nam and South Africa hit 1 billion USD in 2014. It is expected to be doubled in the years to come.
