Ly Son festival expected to lure visitors

Many domestic and international tourist delegations have registered to join the Hoang Sa Soldier Feast and Commemoration Festival on central Quang Ngai province's Ly Son Island from April 25-29.

The information was released at a press briefing organised by the Quang Ngai Departments of Information and Communications, and Culture, Sports and Tourism on April 22.

"Le khao le the linh Hoang Sa" (Hoang Sa Soldier Feast and Commemoration Festival), the biggest-ever cultural event in Quang Ngai province, will see its main activities take place on April 27 and 28, the organising board said.

Nguyen Dang Vu, Director of the Quang Ngai Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the province will not increase the price of travel for tourists.

Quang Ngai has provided training courses to festival volunteers on to ensure the best service at the event, he said.

Director Vu further revealed that the festival's dossier has been approved by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Council under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the ministry is considering recognising the festival as a national intangible cultural heritage.

The communal house of An Vinh village where the festival takes place has been recognised as a national historical and cultural relic site, he added.
